Sorry I have not written in a while.
September has, yet again, proved to be a very busy month.

I am delighted my voice has not let me down.
It was a little tricky to fit my 11k steps per day for Prostate Cancer Charity.
I stupidly walked during a hot day and went on to a gig.
I really felt the effects dehydration when I was singing.

On Saturday my client requested that I not sing My Way.
Upon asking why; he replied that (as devout christians) they don't like the song as the song puts all his success due to his own efforts without any input from God. Very interesting.
They had no problem with alcohol, murder, infidelity and sex on a first date. Can you work out the songs?

I really enjoyed my teaching this term.
Lots of new pupils, both at a school and private adults.
When I get a new pupil; I really try to make what I say very clear and simple.
Singing should be simple. Golf is simple. Hit the little white ball into the hole.
I jest, of course, but to rid the body of what is not needed, is a challenge.
When Posture, support and breathing are all in place, you can then start to build a technique.

Hello and welcome to my first blog.

In this space I want to talk with you about; singing.

I am a professional singer (30 years) and singing teacher (20 years)
As I travel though my career, I will share interesting thoughts and issues that may have occurred.

In the last couple of weeks I have worked as:
1. A session singer on two new films at Abbey Road
2. A Rat Pack singer with a live band at the RAC club in Epsom
3. As a singing telegram at the Brighton Grand hotel, singing a very challenging song to memorise.
4. As a singing waiter, pretending to be Italian and singing opera and trying to be funny.
5. A cabaret singer telling the stories of Matt Monro and the Rat Pack.
6. A classical singer as part of an ensemble at the Cadogan Hall in London
7. A singing teacher working with a young 11 year old lad finding his voice and an elderly gentleman recapturing his youth in the navy gang shows. I love the variety of my pupils.

I would not be able to work in all these fields without a good technique.
I will share with you how I dealt with the challenges of each genre.

I will also talk about some of my favourite singers and favourite songs.
Some songs are challenging for different reasons.
I will explore how to overcome problems and issues that may arise with some of these great songs.
